IB told to reinstate deputy director

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 24: The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Intelligence Bureau to reinstate one of its deputy directors, Gohar Riaz.

Mr Riaz, the younger brother of the former director-general of the Intelligence Bureau, Masood Sharif, was sacked during the PML government.

A division bench, comprising Justice Rana Bhagwandas and Justice Syed Deedar Hussain Shah, was hearing an appeal filed by the federal government.

Sheikh Riazul Haq, advocate, appearing on behalf of the respondent, informed the court that his client was not being allowed to join his duties by the IB despite a judgment of the Federal Service Tribunal in his favour.

Standing Counsel for the federation, Nasir Saeed Shaikh, submitted that only four months had passed since the FST gave its judgment and that the IB had filed an appeal before the apex court.

Justice Shah asked the counsel if the court’s decision was of any value to the appellant.
