RIYADH, Jan 23: A Kuwaiti national suspected of attacking Americans in Kuwait has been arrested in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Press Agency reported. One American was killed and another hurt in the attack, which took place on Tuesday, the third such attack on Americans there since last October.

An official source was quoted here as saying Saudi border guards arrested the man on Wednesday while he was attempting to enter Saudi Arabia illegally from Kuwait.

“It appeared from preliminary investigations that he was the man who opened fire on the Americans stationed in Kuwait on Tuesday,” the source said adding that the kingdom would handover the suspect to Kuwait.

Earlier also a man accused of firing on Americans in Kuwait was arrested in Saudi Arabia, from the border city of Hafr Al-Batin. The accused was handed over to the Kuwaiti authorities later for interrogation.

Meanwhile, following Tuesday’s attack, US missions in the kingdom and elsewhere in the Gulf have urged American citizens to step up security awareness.
