LAHORE, Jan 23: Army with seven golds and Wapda with five, maintained their lead in the men’s and women’s events, respectively on the second day of the 37th national athletics championship at the Wapda Sports Complex, Kot Lakhpat on Thursday.

In all 12 finals, eight in the men’s section and four in the women were decided on Thursday.

In the men’s section Army claimed five more golds medals while Wapda two and Police one.

Allah Ditta, grabbed two gold medals for Army, winning the 400m hurdles clocking 52.3 sec and clinching the 3,000 steeple chase race with a timing of 9.13.7. Ahmad Balal gave Army their third gold of the day in the high jump jumping over 2.1 metres.

In women’s events, Army and Wapda claimed two more gold medals, each.

For Wapda, Shazia Hayat earned a gold in the 5,000m race. covering the distance in 21 minute 07 seconds. Wapda’s second gold came through Zeenat Parvin in shot put with a 12.70m put.

Army’s first gold of the day was bagged by Fauzia Aurangzeb in 400m hurdles when she clocked one minute 6.2 seconds. Sajida Ramzan got a gold in the 400m race clocking 57.8 seconds.

3,000m steeplechase: Allah Ditta (Army) 9min 13.7sec, Faryad Hussain (Army), Muhammad Amjad (Navy).

400m: Mohsin Munir (Police) 48.7 sec, Saghir Ahmad (Wapda), Basit Munir (Wapda).

High jump: Ahmad Balal (Army) 2.1m, Tariq Ali Gujjar (Wapda), Muhammad Riaz (Army).

Discus throw: Mirza Imran (Wapda) 51.23m, Ihteshamul Haq (Wapda), Aasim Ali (Police).

800m: Inam Ali Shah (Wapda) 1 min 52.6 sec, Ata Miran (Army), Arshad Fazal (Wapda).

Shot put: Ashraf Ali (Army) 16.95m, Hafiz Imtiaz (Wapda), Muhammad Riaz (Army).

Long jump: Wasim Khan (Army) 7.55m, Asif Gulzar (Wapda), Muhammad Zulifqar (Army).

WOMEN.

40m hurdles: Fauzia Aurangzeb (Army) one m 6.2 sec, Bashiran (Railway), Nadia Nazir (Wapda).

400m: Sajida Ramzan (Army) 57.8 sec, Gul Naz Ara (Wapda), Sumaira Zahoor (POF).

5,000m: Shazia Hayat (Wapda) 21.07sec, Saadia Parvin (Wapda), Zareen Naz (Sindh).
