ISLAMABAD, Jan 23: Provincial election commissions in Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar started scrutiny of nomination papers for Senate election on Thursday.

In Peshawar, all 45 nomination papers which came under scrutiny were found in order.

In Karachi, the commission found 14 nomination papers filed for four reserved seats for women in order.

The scrutiny of nomination papers for 14 general seats for Sindh will be held on Friday.

In Lahore, four nomination papers were held valid.

In Balochistan, scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held from Monday.

According to sources, scrutiny of the nomination papers for seats reserved for women will be held on Tuesday and for seats of Ulema and technocrats on Wednesday.

The scrutiny will continue till Wednesday.

Last date for withdrawal of candidature is Feb 7 and the final list of candidates will be published on Feb 8.

Election will be held on Feb 24 in the provinces and on Feb 27 in the capital and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.—APP
