KARACHI, Jan 23: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), Sindh, continued its series of protest demonstrations for the seventh consecutive day, Thursday, outside the local press club against the arrest of Jamaat-i-Islami activists and increasing terrorism in Karachi.
Participants of the rally belonged to the allied parties of the MMA. Holding placards and banners in their hands, they raised slogans against anti-JI operation, implicating the JI leaders and supporters in false cases, and the increasing terrorist attacks in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, the JI leader, Muhammad Muslim, advised Altaf Hussain, chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), to ask his partymen to launch a campaign against US for using the Immigration and Naturalization laws against Pakistani expatriates and oppressive measures against Muslims around the world.
The JI leader pointed out that peace had returned to the city following the introduction of local governments and that development activities had picked up momentum under the City District Government after a long period. However, he added, Karachiites’ enemies were out to block the way of peace and progress.
“To hamper the development activities, Muttahida Qaumi Movement resorted to meddle into the affairs of the city government,” he claimed and alleged that the MQM believed in ‘politics of terrorism’.
The JI leader condemned the recent killing of two MQM activists and held the MQM itself responsible for the murders.
“It is an old practice that the MQM kills its own partymen and shifts blame on others,” he alleged.
The Secretary General of Jamaat-i-Islami, Karachi, Rashid Nasim, also spoke on the occasion.—PPI
