SFP launches training programme


ISLAMABAD, Jan 22: President Ski Federation of Pakistan (SFP), Air Marshal Syed Qaiser Hussain, has unveiled the Ski Training Programme to prepare for XX Winter Olympics 2006.

Speaking at the occasion, Air Marshal Qaiser Hussain, highlighted the efforts made by the federation in enhancing the image of snow sports.

The importance and popularity of the sport can be judged from the fact that Pakistan was represented in 3rd and 4th Asian Winter games in Harbi (China) and Kangwon (Korea) in 1996 and 1999 respectively and in 11th Yong Pyong Cup Alpine Ski Games for Men in South Korea in Feb 2001.

The children’s team also represented in 9th Asian championship held in Iran in 1999 and 11th Asian Children Alpine Ski Championship in Yong Pyong in South Korea in 2001.

He disclosed that Pakistan will participate in the 5th Amori Winter Asian Games to be staged at Aomori, Japan from Feb 1-8.

The team will comprise six athletes and one coach. Prior to the Asian games, the players would undergo rigorous training in Nagano.—APP
