HYDERABAD, Jan 22: The Sindh minister for education, Irfanullah Marwat, has said that English would be made compulsory from class one, and added that two “Model Schools” would be established in each Taluka of Sindh where emphasis would be on English as well as on other subjects.

He was addressing the members of the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) on Tuesday.

He pointed out that many teachers of the Sindh education department were also working in other organizations.

He said that the Sindh education department was presently paying salaries to 150,000 teachers, many of whom were ghost employees. He said the ghost employees would not be allowed to go scot free.

Earlier, the president of the HCCI, Abdur Razzaq Memon, in his welcome address, highlighted the educational problems of the province, especially teachers’ training, absence of playgrounds, and the construction of a high school in the thickly-populated area of Bakra Piri (cattle market).
