Free Lancers unlucky to lose

LAHORE, Jan 21: Gulf Pak Refinery beat Free Lancers 5 1/2 -5 by virtue of its half goal handicap, ably supported by a last minute goal by Shah Qublai Alam, in the Himont Chemicals Junior Cup polo on Tuesday.

Gulf took the lead through a field goal by Mohsin Khosa in  the first chukker while Lancers struck back through Jamal  Iftikhar to make it 1 1/2-1.

The winners struck another goal through Imran Najib in  the  second chukker, but Azhar Ali who slammed three goals in the match, scored in his first to reduce the margin 2 1/2-2. In  the third chukker, Gulf went on the offensive scoring two goals, one by Imran and the other by Qublai. For the losers Azhar contributed his second. Gulf  were leading 4 1/2-3 at the end of third chukker.

Free Lancers staged a comeback and took the lead for the first time  5-  4 1/2 in the fourth chukker scoring back  to  back goals through Jamal and Azhar. But Qublai sealed the fate of  the match  by  converting a 60 yard hit.

In another match Diamonds Paints beat Dew Drops (5- 4 1/2.

Maula Bakhsh scored his first two goals in the first  chukker to  put Paints ahead 2- 1/2 as Dew  Drops, had half a goal handicap.

Dew Drops, struck back hard in the third chukker scoring four  goals  in a row to take a commanding 4 1/2- 2  lead.

 Taimur Malik scored the first converting a  40  yards penalty while Irfan Ali Hyder slammed a hat trick but in vain.

Paints, recovered to hit back in the fourth chukker with three gaols and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Mir Shoaib  Ahmad, Maula Bakhsh and Adnan lone scored for the winners.
