LARKANA, Jan 20: The death of a villager, Qurban Jat, on Monday in the CMC Hospital, who had been seriously injured when police opened fire late Thursday night in the Shahmurad Abro village, triggered a protest demonstration by the villagers.

The villager who had been injured in the forehead was admitted in the neuro-surgery department of the hospital where he had undergone a surgery but could not survive.

The villagers carrying Qurban’s body protested outside the district police officer’s office and chanted slogans against the SHO of the Rasheed Wagan police station.

The villagers held a sit-in on the VIP Road as a result of which traffic remained blocked.

DSP Abdul Razzak Brohi of the investigation wing assured the protesters that SHO Abdul Majeed Brohi would be dealt with accordingly.

The SHO had gone underground after a case had been lodged against him with the Taluka police station.

The DSP, Saddar, Akhtar Chandio, told this correspondent that the SHO had been suspended, and added that four other policemen — Sher Mohammed Day, Abdul Hameed Soomro, Naseem Brohi and Mehar Jat — had already been picked in the case.

DETAINED: The Kambar police rounded up 13 people, including four women, on Monday after eight dacoits robbed rangers of two G-3 rifles near Kambar late Sunday night.

The dacoits had intercepted a van, carrying two engineers, and their bodyguards, Ashique Hussain and Mohammed Saleh, near the Habib Magsi village, on the Kambar Gaibidero road. They snatched two G-3 rifles, wristwatches, and cash from them.
