Shamyl steals show

LAHORE, Jan 19: Shah Shamyl Alam scored a double hat trick to help Askari Water beat Remounts 7-5 1/2 in the Lahore Polo Club tournament final on Sunday.

Shamyl drew first blood when he converted a 40 yards penalty hit to score his first goal. Remounts, with 1/2 goal handicap scored their first goal through Ahmad Khan who capitalised a 30 yards hit. But Shamyl scored back to back goals to complete his first hat trick. He scored his second goal on field attempt and third by converting a spot penalty.

Askari led 3-1 1/2 at the end of the first chukker.

Remounts staged a comeback scoring three goals in the second chukker to gain 4 1/2-3 lead. Khurshid scored first with a long hit. Asif Zahoor narrowed the margin with a field effort before Ahmad struck his second to put Remounts ahead.

Askari dominated in the remaining two chukkers scoring four more goals. Taimur Mawaz Khan scored a goal for the winners while Shamyl scored the remaining three to complete his second hat trick, a goal in the third and two in the fourth chukker. Ahmad scored his third goal in the third chukker for the losers.

Five goals by Hissam Ali Hyder and three by Sattar Niazi helped Sunday TV to come in third position, beating Master Paints in a one-sided match 10-5. Atif Yar Tiwana scored the remaining two goals for the winners.

For Master Paints who had two goals on handicap, Sufi Haris, Sufi Amir and Pablo Bagnardi scored a goal each.
