Naveed, Najaf share spotlight

DUBAI, Jan 19: Medium-pacers Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan and Najaf Shah shared seven wickets between as Pakistan ‘A’ restrict Emirates Cricket Board XI to 227 in their first innings on the opening day of a two-day match at Dubai Cricket Council Ground on Sunday.

Naveed finished with four for 54 from 12 overs while Najaf took three for 22 in eight overs.

Pakistan ‘A’ were 79 for the loss of opener Salman Butt (2) and Saeed bin Nasir (33) to medium-pacer Asim Saeed.

Shadab Kabir was batting on a fluent 41 which included four boundaries, With him at the crease was Farhan Adil on one.

Earlier, Pakistan A’ captain Shoaib Malik elected to field first on a relatively cold day.

Pakistan ‘A’ made four changes to the team that won the opening fixture by an innings and 148 runs. Imran Farhat, Naved Latif, Umar Gul and Yasir Arafat were replaced by Salman Butt, Saeed bin Nasir, Abdul Rauf and Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan.

Opener Asim Saeed top-scored for ECB XI with 45, which was laced with three boundaries.
