LAHORE, Jan 19: Sunshine, though dimmed by a haze of mist, provided a relief to the people of Lahore on Sunday from the effects of a cold night.

The night’s minimum temperature had reintroduced the bite in the weather at 2 degrees Celsius against a minimum of 6.3 degrees Celsius on the previous night. However, sunshine increased the maximum temperature during the day to 15.7 degrees Celsius against a maximum of 13.8 on Saturday.

People took advantage of an almost clear day and thronged city’s several parks and recreational places with their children.

Fog had developed around 11.40pm on Saturday night and kept the visibility reduced to 100 metres till 4am. At 8am, the visibility was 80 metres, but it improved when the fog cleared at about 11am.

The fog and the cold have been haunting Lahore for over 15 days and disturbing people’s outdoor activities especially in the evening. There have been less people in restaurants and recreational places than is usual for this time of the year.

The Met office said many other cities in the Punjab had also remained fogbound.

It predicted dry weather and fog for the Sunday night and Monday in almost the entire Punjab including Lahore.

The minimum temperature was -5 degrees Celsius in Skardu, -1 in Astore, 1 in Islamabad, Kamra and Gilgit, 2 in Sialkot, Balakot and Chitral, 3 in Dir and 4 in Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan and Boonji.
