HYDERABAD, Jan 19: Writer Prof Abdul Hameed Memon has urged the villagers of Sindh to revive kutchehry culture and play a role in community development.

He was speaking at a seminar on “21st Century and Villages of Sindh,” organized by the Sindh Goth Sudhar Sangat in Ghando Khoso goth, Hyderabad taluka on Saturday.

He said the villages of the province did not have proper education, health and water facilities.

He said social welfare organizations could help resolve problems of rural areas.

He said it was the responsibility of the government to make education and health facilities available in rural areas, adding the residents of the rural areas should also participate in furtherance of these objectives.

Dr Hussain Bux Kolachi said the government, as well as social welfare organizations, should create awareness among people regarding women education.

He said poverty and low literacy rate had hampered the development process in rural areas.

The Sangat chief Majid Panhwar announced the NGO was observing 2003 as the “Village Development Year”.

He said seminars and conferences would be organized in rural areas throughout the year with a view to create awareness among people to take part in community development process on self-help basis.

On this occasion, Prof Memon inaugurated a three-day free eye camp.

DISMISSED: The Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, here on Friday dismissed a constitutional petition, filed against the then TPO, Hala, Ali Sher Jakhrani, now the TPO of Tando Mohammad Khan, and other police officials, with directives to the complainant to file a direct complainant in the sessions court, reports our correspondent.
