Four bank dacoity accused arrested
BAHAWALPUR, Jan 18: The local police on Saturday claim to have arrested four accused, including a cashier, a lawyer, a teacher, and recovered unlicensed arms and half the cash amount they had looted from a bank on Friday.
Talking to newsmen, SSP Sikandar Hayat said that police parties comprising inspectors and DSPs had been assigned the task to track down the jeep (RP-495) used in the dacoity incident.
On Saturday, some policemen located the jeep at Raza service station on the Hasilpur Road and arrested Sarfraz Ali Khera advocate. On his information, police arrested cashier Shehzad, teacher Azhar Khursheed of Bosan Road College, Multan, and fireman Shakil of former Bahawalpur MCL.
Police also recovered Rs1 million looted money out of total Rs2.2 million, the bank guard’s gun, a rifle, two revolvers and a Kalashnikov from their possession.
The two motorcycles used in the bank dacoity were also recovered. He said the recovered jeep belonged to cashier Shehzad.
The SSP said several accomplices of the arrested men had been waiting in the recovered jeep which was parked at a distance on the roadside.
He said the remaining accused would soon be arrested. Sarfraz had also been the local district bar secretary, the SSP said.
