Students protest against Bara action

PESHAWAR, Jan 18: Over 100 of students, belonging to different villages in Khyber Agency, staged a demonstration in front of the Peshawar Press Club on Saturday against the closure of vehicular traffic and siege of Bara by the law enforcement agencies.

Members of Afridi Students Federation and Bara Students Federation carried placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the political authorities.

They told newsmen that all markets, hospitals and schools in the Agency had been closed by the authorities.

The Khasadar force had occupied all the entry and exit points and were refusing permission to enter the area.

They held the political authorities responsible for the rising lawlessness. They urged the government not to punish all residents for the wrong of a handful of criminals.

They demanded of the government to stop the operation against the tribesmen forthwith and allow their elders to decide the issue at Jirga.

Later, they dispersed peacefully.—Bureau
