ISLAMABAD: Ministry’s help sought in CDA dues recovery

ISLAMABAD, Jan 18: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has requested the interior ministry to get its outstanding dues, amounting to over Rs6 billion, recovered from government departments.

Talking to Dawn on Saturday, the CDA chairman, Mir Laiq Shah, said Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat had been appraised about the financial position of the authority.

The minister was told that the government had to pay over Rs6 billion to the CDA that had been spent on the maintenance of official buildings, payment of utility dues of various departments and mega-development projects initiated on the government’s instruction.

Another CDA official said out of a total amount of Rs6 billion, Rs4 billion was utilized on the maintenance of government buildings and payment of utility dues while Rs2 billion on various development projects.

“The CDA alone cannot recover the outstanding dues from government departments, therefore it has sought the help of the interior ministry for this purpose,” the official said.

The CDA is reportedly facing acute financial crisis and if these outstanding dues are recovered, its condition will improve, he added.

According to a data compiled by the CDA, some 42 main government departments and buildings, including Chief Executive Secretariat, Wapda, PTCL, Kashmir House, Balochistan House, Sindh House, Punjab House, Frontier House, Foreign Office and Pak- Secretariat, were defaulters of over Rs1 billion.

The official said these government buildings had to pay the amount to the CDA under property tax, water tax and other municipal taxes.

He further said the authority had decided to serve notice on these government departments in the near future.
