HUB: Travelling atop vehicles banned

By Our Correspondent

HUB, Jan 18: The Lasbela district government has imposed a ban on the owners of passenger buses, coaches and coaster carrying people atop their vehicles, in district limits.

The ban was imposed in view of overloading by the conductors and drivers of the buses, coasters and coaches, endangering the lives of the commuters.

The decision, taken during a meeting held in Uthal, the district headquarter of the district, came into force with immediate effect.

District Nazim Jam Kamal Khan chaired the meeting. Lasbela district Naib Nazim, DCO and representatives of transporters and the RTA were among those who attended the meeting.

The meeting decided that those found carrying people atop their vehicles and violating the rules would be penalized according to motor vehicle laws.

During the meeting, it was also decided that a committee comprising local bodies representatives, district government officials and transporters would be formed to issue route permits in future as it was observed that in past route permits were issued to unrelated persons, resulting in the increase of risk to the lives of the common people.

The meeting requested the provincial government to instruct the RTA to stop issuing such permits.
