Kuwaiti held for spying

By Our Correspondent

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 18: Kuwait said late on Friday night that it had arrested a Kuwaiti national on charges of links with Iraqi intelligence.

Kuwait’s interior ministry said in a statement that Mohammad Hamad Fahd Al Juwaied, 49, an ex-sergeant in the National Guard was arrested for “communicating with an enemy country” and “dealing with Iraqi intelligence.”

The statement said he had provided Iraqis with secret military information, monitored movements of senior state officials, with the aim of facilitating terrorist and sabotage acts against vital installations and undermining the state’s sovereignty.

It also added that Fahd had supplied plans and important information to the agents of Iraqi regime abroad and this act would be punishable after reference of the detainee to the competent authorities according to the standing regulations and laws.
