ISLAMABAD, Jan 17: The Supreme Court was informed on Friday that Sunni and Shia groups of Attock district have reached a compromise over cases lodged agsinst men of both groups after the fatal clashes of 1993 and 1998.

Counsel for the two groups Talib Haider Rizvi and Babar Awan submitted before the Court that the central leadership of Mutihda Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and local leaders had played an important role in bringing the rival groups together on a compromise.

The Bench comprised Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary, Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar and Justice Sardar Raza Mohammad Khan.

As result of the this agreement reached in the court of Sessions Judge Attok, men of both sides awarded capital punishment and other sentences would be freed. The Sunni group will also pay Rs2 million to the Shia group.—APP
