KARACHI, Jan 17: Three accountability court judges were on Friday relieved of their assignments on the expiry of their term.
All three — Dr Qamaruddin Vohra, Javed Alam and Riaz Phoolpoto — belong to the provincial judicial service and will rejoin the subordinate judiciary in their respective grades. They were appointed for three years by the federal law ministry.
The proposal to extend their tenure was not acceptable to the ministry.
The accountability judges, who are appointed by the law ministry on the recommendation of the chief justice of the high court concerned, are entitled to special pay and perks.
The ministry would now request the Sindh High Court chief justice to recommend new presiding officers for the three accountability courts.—PPI
