By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 16: An endoscopy unit in the Paediatrics Ward III of the Civil Hospital was opened formally on Thursday. The endoscopy unit is the first such facility in the public sector hospitals of the province.

The chief guest — Afshan Waseem Ghazi, wife of the corps commander of Karachi — on the occasion acknowledged and praised the efforts of the Civil Hospital’s administration which has undertaken 23 private-public ventures in recent years.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Civil Hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Prof Noshad A. Sheikh, said that the project cost Rs4million to the exchequer while Rs5 million was raised by donors. The instrument was bought from the money provided by the authorities.

He said the project was the 23rd private-public venture undertaken by his hospital. The Civil Hospital had started wearing a new look because of the ventures, he claimed.

Prof Noshad said a burns ward would soon be opened in his hospital after refurbishment. The ward will be the hospital’s 24th private-public project.

The professor of surgery claimed that his hospital had gained sufficient credibility for the donors to donate with confidence in its projects.

Prof Iqbal Memon of the Paediatrics Ward III said thousands of children from all over the province would benefit from the services provided by the endoscopy unit in his ward.
