Fahad sends Karachi Blues reeling

By Our Sports Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Jan 14: Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL)’s paceman Fahad Masood ripped Karachi Blues apart snaring six wickets to send them crashing to 182 all out on the opening day of their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Group-IV match at KRL Ground here on Tuesday.

But Karachi Blues fought back to leave ZTBL at 65 for three by the close. Medium-pacer Mohammad Hasnain picked up two scalps.

The day, however, belonged to Fahad who bowled splendidly to run through the rival batting and finish with impressive figures of six for 43 in 18 overs.

The top scorer, interestingly was tailender Sami Faridi with 38 as no other batsman could do much in the face of Fahad’s accurate bowling and Mubashir Nazir, who took two wickets.

When ZTBL batted, Hasnain maintained an accurate line and length removing opener Inam-ul-Haq for nought and sending Atif Qureshi packing for eight runs. Iftikhar Ali took the other wicket to fall, that of Raheel Majeed.

At the close, Hafiz Majid was unbeaten on 33 and with him was Faisal Naved on 6.

Meanwhile, PIA finished the first day of their game against Rawalpindi on top, having gained a two-run lead at Pindi Cricket Stadium.

After bowling out the hosts for 139, with Test fast bowler Fazle Akbar taking five for 41, PIA were 141 for two when play ended for the day. Faisal Iqbal struck 51 not out and Ghulam Ali hit 40.

Misbah-ul-Haq, the Pakistan batsman, missed scoring his third century in many matches when he was dismissed for 98 as KRL made 225 for seven against Peshawar at Arbab Niaz Stadium.

Medium-pacer Mohammad Siddique was the most successful bowler for the hosts with figures of three for 64.
