RAWALPINDI, Jan 14: Four robbers ransacked the house of a retired army officer in Lalazar on Tuesday night.

The wife of Mr Rashid, residing in house 126-B, told Dawn that the robbers, who seemed to be in their 20s, entered her house when she opened the door after hearing the door bell ringing.

The intruders held her husband and two daughters at gunpoint and threatened to kidnap one of the girls if cash and valuables were not handed over to them.

“I begged them not to harm my daughter, and take whatever they want from my house,” the woman said. The culprits, who remained in the house for two hours, collected prize bonds, cash, a television set, a VCD player, cameras, and escaped in the victims’ car (LHR-971).

In a similar incident, three armed robbers raided a doctor’s house in Christian colony and decamped with Rs20,000 in cash and gold ornaments. They also resorted to aerial firing while escaping.

HOSPITAL FIRE: A fire broke out in a private hospital at Chur, destroying four rooms and resulting in evacuation of dozens of patients, the hospital administration said. The fire broke out at the Chinese hospital at around 9am on Tuesday. At that time, at least 70 out-door patients were present in the hospital.

When the incident happened, the patients ran out of the building, while the rooms were evacuated by the hospital administration. However, no person was reported injured or hurt. The fire was controlled by the fire fighters after two hours. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
