Boxers to train in Cuba

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Jan 13: Six Pakistani boxers who qualify for the Olympics would be sent to Cuba for two months training before the event in Athens.

The third qualifying round for the Asian region for the Olympics Games boxing competition will be held in Pakistan in May.

The president of the Pakistan Amateur Boxing Federation (PABF) Prof. Anwar Chowdhry said on Monday first qualifying round had been allotted to Philippines which would be held this month. China would organise the second round in March before third round in Pakistan.

He said Wapda should organize an international tournament because it had its own infrastructure and all facilities required for such competitions.

The PABF official offered Wapda to field its team in that international tournament, while the national squad would be formed from other departments.

He urged the concerned authorities to adopt the Russian sports system based on producing Master of Sports.
