Meadowlea clinch crown

LAHORE, Jan 13: A goal by Jamal Iftikhar in the extra fifth chukker enabled Meadowlea to beat Polo Lounge 6-5 in the Rana Cup final on Monday.

The match ended in a draw 5-5 at the end of the scheduled fourth chukker

In order to decide the outcome, an extra fifth chukker was played on sudden death basis, in which Jamal scored a field goal.

Earlier, Azhar Ali scored four goals in the match for the winners including a hat trick in the first chukker. He scored two field goals and converted a spot penalty near the goal post.

Polo had a handicap of two goals.

Hussain Iftikhar, put Meadowlea further ahead 4-2 in the beginning of the second chukker. Asad Hayat Tiwana struck back with the the first goal of the losers, before the chukker ended making it 4-3.

No goal was scored in the third chukker.

Polo struck their fourth goal through Feroze Gulzar but Azhar again put his side 5-4 ahead by scoring his final fourth goal.

However, Feroze converted a 30 yards penalty hit to restore the parity (5-5) forcing the play to an extra chukker.

Meanwhile, Guard Filters defeated Four Musketeers 8-3 in the opening match of the Samad Memorial Cup which started on Monday.

Taimur Malik and Talha Saeed, scored three goals each for the winners, while Irfan Ali Hyder added two goals.

For the losing side, Saqib Khakwani scored all three goals.
