Provinces asked to declare local holiday

ISLAMABAD, Jan 13: The chief election commissioner has asked the provincial governments to declare Wednesday as a local holiday for the educational institutions in the districts where polling will be held for the by-elections.

By-elections would be held on Wednesday for the ten National Assembly and 19 provincial assemblies seats in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP on Wednesday.

The CEC order said that to facilitate the education staff, deputed to conduct the polls, the provincial governments should declare a local holiday for the educational institutions on the day of the by-elections in the respective districts.

The by-elections for the National Assembly seats would be held in the constituencies NA-25 D. I. Khan/Tank, NA-34 Lower Dir, NA-56 Rawalpindi, NA-74 Bhakkar, NA-142 Kasur, NA-163 Sahiwal, NA-187 Bahawalpur, NA-201 Ghotki, NA-216 Khairpur and NA-242 Karachi.

The by-elections for the provincial assemblies seats would be held in the constituencies PP-8 Rawalpindi, PP-44 Mianwali, PP-47 Bhakkar, PP-61 Faisalabad, PP-103 Gujranwala, PP-110 Gujrat, PP- 142 Lahore, PP-147 Lahore, PP-200 Multan, PP-245 D. G. Khan, PP- 266 Layyah, PS-10 Shikarpur, PS-12 Shikarpur, PS-18 Jacobabad, PS-76 Dadu, PS-86 Thatta, PF-20 Charsadda, PF-67 D. I. Khan and PB-31 Kachhi.
