KARACHI: Judgment reserved in case against minister

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 13: An additional district and sessions judge at the Judicial Complex, Bashir Ahmed Khoso, reserved on Monday judgment in a murder case against Shoaib Ahmed Bukhari, a leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and provincial minister.

The judge fixed Jan 23 for announcement of judgment in the case, registered on September 10, 1995 against leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and its rival, the Mohajir Qaumi Movement, under sections 302, 324 and 109 of PPC.

According to the prosecution, Maqsood Ahmed was killed during an exchange of fire between the rival groups.

Those declared absconder in the case were the chief of the Muttahida, Altaf Husain, the chief of the Haqiqi, Afaq Ahmed, Nasreen Jalil, Iqbal Qureshi, Shaikh Liaquat Hussain, Asif Hafeez, Ajmal Dehlvi and Badar Iqbal.

ACQUITTED: An additional district and sessions judge, Ghulam Qadir Leghari, acquitted a sector in charge of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan in a murder case.

Jawaid Nawab, prosecuted for killing Azhar Hussain in 2001 in the police limits of Khwaja Ajmair Nagri, was acquitted of the murder charge as the prosecution could not prove its case.

Nadim Shahzad Hashmi, defence counsel, submitted before the court that his client was implicated in the case by police, who wanted to extort money from his maternal uncle, a builder.

The defence counsel also disputed the date and place of the arrest of his client. He placed on court record the evidence that the accused had been arrested a week before police showed his arrest in the murder case.
