KARACHI, Jan 13: The Speaker of Sindh Assembly, Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, has advised non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working for women’s rights to establish a strong working relationship political parties in order to get women-friendly laws enacted.
Talking to an 11-member delegation of Legislative Watch Group, constituted by an NGO, Aurat Foundation, the Speaker said that such a relationship would facilitate the NGOs present the case of the marginalized sections of the society in general and women in particular more effectively.
The delegation met the Speaker at Sindh Assembly building on Monday.
Giving a guideline, he said that once the issues would be placed on the political parties’ top priority list, they would be deliberated upon on the floor of the assembly and, after debates, the legislators would be able to enact women-friendly laws to resolve the issues.
Mr Shah, who used to attend a lot of seminars and other programmes, organized by the Aurat Foundation, as a resources person in the past, offered all possible assistance on his part for the cause of women’s protection and welfare.
He also held out the assurance that he would do his utmost to facilitate the NGOs’ presence in the House during deliberations.
