KARACHI, Jan 13: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority will soon release the results of a survey on the performance of all internet service providers in the country.

This was stated by the regional director of the PTA, Col Rizwan Ahmed Hydery, while talking toDawn on Monday.

He said the telecoms regulator would take action against those ISPs whose performance failed to meet the standards laid down by the PTA.

“In the survey, whose results are being compiled these days, the PTA checked the performance of the internet service providers for connectivity time, sustainability of an Internet connection, connectivity speed and downloading time,” he said while elaborating on the parameters of the survey.

Col Hydery said the telecoms regulator had carried out an extensive survey of the performance of all ISPs in the country in the past, but no action had been taken against the erring information technology institutes.

The PTA regional director said that a survey of the performance of all mobile companies in the country was also in progress.

Col Hydery explained that the parameters being evaluated by the telecoms regulator were: network connectivity, voice quality, intranet connectivity, connectivity on highways and in congested areas, call dropping rate and coverage.

He said that sufficient time had been given to the mobile companies to improve their service, and the present survey would ascertain their latest service standard. The PTA teams are carrying out the survey in Peshawar, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Karachi, Hyderabad and Quetta.
