Arsalan helps Askari annex polo cup

LAHORE, Jan 12: Three goals by Arsalan Najib helped Askari Water annex the Lahore-12-Goal Polo Cup, defeating Acoba 8-5 1/2 in the final on Sunday.

Acoba, with 1/2 goal handicap extended their lead in the first chukker when Saqib Khakwani scored a goal. However, Askari struck back with two goals from Taimur Mawaz Khan and Atif Yar Tiwana to go ahead 2- 1 1/2 at the end of the first chukker.

Askari scored two more goals in the second chukker, one from Arsalan, who scored his first and the second through Taimur’s second and final goal.

The losers scored their only goal of the chukker through Saqib who in all contributed three goals in the match, but only to reduce the lead 4-2 1/2 at the end of the second chukker.

The third chukker was dominated equally as both the sides scored two goals apiece. Ahmad Ali Tiwana scored a goal while Arslan his second for the winners. Saqib scored his third and final while Usman Hai slammed in a goal for the losers.

The fourth chukker saw Askari further widen the lead 8-5 1/2 by scoring two more goals and conceding a goal. Arsalan and Atif scored for the winners while Umar Sadik scored his solitary goal for Acoba.

Earlier, TV beat Master Paints by a close margin 5-4 1/2 to secure the third spot.

Shah Shamyl Alam , banged home three goals for the winners. Captain Malik and Shah Qublai Alam a goal each.

Playing with one and a half goal, Master Paints scored their three goals through Hissam Ali Haider (2) and Sattar Niazi (1).
