SRINAGAR, Jan 11: Eleven people were killed in insurgency-related violence in Indian Kashmir as six British lawmakers arrived on a study tour of the strife-torne region, officials said on Saturday.
Kashmiri fighters shot dead a woman, Barkat Bibi and her son, Mohammed Shakeel, inside their house in Hari Budha area of southern Poonch district on Friday, a police spokesman said.
Six Mujahideen and an Indian army soldier were killed in two separate encounters in the same district on early Saturday and late Friday.
Police said three Kashmiris killed in one of the encounters were Pakistani nationals belonging to the Lashkar-i-Taiba.
Another Kashmiri fighter was shot dead by troops near the town of Shopian, 50 kilometers south of Srinagar, the state summer capital, police said.—AFP
