LAHORE, Jan 11: Bay filly Democracy looks good in the feature event of the Lahore Winter Meeting to be contested over a mile at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Four-year-old filly from Cisco Well out-of-Let Get Going, Democracy had finished second behind The Conqueror in the Khyber Cup over 1400 metres on Dec 29 .
Her rider A. Aziz was not seen at his best while riding the filly in the final stages of the race. Perhaps he was looking for her stablemate, bay colt Bureaucrat to get advantage but he lost the race and finished a hopeless fourth.
On that performance, Democracy is being fancied to win the Nowshera Plate, a class III, IV and V combined handicap race and sixth in racing order.
Democracy’s connections had backed Bureaucrat because in their own estimation the colt was better placed in handicap than the filly, which proved totally wrong.
In the supporting and fifth race, the Sohawa Plate class IV Flight Alert stands out among his six rivals. The colt from Cisco Wells out-of-Pink Bouquet, Flight Alert has already won four back to back races and will be going all out to make it five in-a-row.
He is in a fine trim and had showed a blistering turn of foot in last outing.
He will be followed by blue-roan gelding Millennium Count and bay colt Great King.
A card of six events, two over a mile, three over 1200 metres and one over 1000 metres, has been laid out for the afternoon.
The Jaranwala Plate, a term race for three-year-old halfbred colts and fillies to be run over 1200 metres has been cancelled due to paucity of runners.
The first race is scheduled to start at 12.30 pm.
