LAHORE, Jan 10: A late goal by Taimur Mawaz Khan enabled Askari Waters to beat Master Paints 5-4 1/2 in the 6-12 Goal polo tournament on Friday.
Paints, with 1/2 goal handicap led the match 4 1/2-3 till end of the third chukker. In the fourth chukker, Askari scored two goals to emerge victorious.
Sattar Niazi and Hissam Ali Hyder put Paints ahead 2 1/2-0 by scoring a goal each in the first chukker.
Askari managed to reduce the margin in the second chukker by scoring two goals one each by Taimur and Ahmed Ali Tiwana, who both shared four goals equally. Sufi Muhammad Amir scored a goal for paints to again extend the lead 3 1/2-2.
In the third chukker Ahmed netted his second goal to further reduce the deficit 3 1/2-3. But Sufi Amir again came to score his second goal for the losers to keep his side in front 4 1/2- 3.
In final chukker, Arsalan Najib scored a goal and later Taimur banged home his second to seal the fate of the match.
In another tough match, Sunday T V beat Acoba 7-6 1/2 in a closely contested match.
Four goals by Shah Shamyl Alam, two by his elder brother Shah Qublai Alam and a goal from Faaiz Rahim enabled helped Sunday TV to lead with a comfortable margin of 7-4 1/2 upto the third chukker.
The losers with 1 1/2 goal handicap tried to make a comeback in the fourth chukker with Saqib Khakwani who scored three goals in the match, and Isfandyar Pataudi slamming a goal each. Usman Hayee struck a the final goal for Acoba but in vain.
Earlier, four goals by Agha Murtaza and three by in-form Azhar Ali steered Meadowlea to an impressive 9-3 1/2 win over Toyo Nasic in a match of the Rana Cup tournament. Hussain Iftikhar netted two goals for the winners.
For the losers with 1 1/2 handicap, Raja Sattar and Ihsan Javed scored a goal each.
