KARACHI: Zafar Naeem passes away

KARACHI, Jan 10: The Registrar of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET), Prof Zafar Naeem, died from cardiac arrest here on Friday. He was 72. He left behind a widow, four sons and two daughters.

The noted scientist had also served at the University of Karachi and held the office of the chairman, Department of Chemistry.

Prof Zafar was laid to rest at Karachi University graveyard in presence of a large number of his relatives, friends, admirers, senior academics and students. His Namaz-i-Janaza was offered at the Jamia Masjid of the university.

Quran Khawani for the departed soul would be held on Sunday at his residence, B-233, Block-2, Gulistan-i-Jauhar (near the office of the Geological Survey of Pakistan).

Z. A. Nizami, Chancellor of the SSUET, in his condolence message, has said that Prof Zafar was one of the oldest associates of the university who contributed greatly towards the development of the institution.
