KARACHI: Eight cars, 11 bikes hijacked: Girl commits suicide

KARACHI, Jan 9: A young girl committed suicide at her house in Orangi Town late Wednesday night.
Police said that Tamanna, aged 17, sprinkled kerosene on her body and set herself on fire after her engagement broke off.
She was admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where she died on Thursday morning.
CARJACKING: Nineteen vehicles — eight cars and 11 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Thursday, police said.
Two cars were hijacked. Six others were stolen.
Four motorcycles were hijacked. Seven others were stolen.
ROAD ACCIDENTS: Reckless driving claimed two lives in the city on Thursday.
Police said that a two-year-old boy, Shahzad, was run over by a speeding truck (JA-2690) a short distance away from his house in Shah Latif Town.
Police claimed to have arrested the truck driver, Javed Iqbal, and impounded the vehicle.
An unidentified man was knocked down by a speeding minibus of route W-11 in New Karachi Industrial Area. The man died on the spot.
The bus driver escaped abandoning the bus. Police, however, claimed to have impounded the bus.
The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.
SHOT DEAD: A young man was shot dead in Landhi late Wednesday night.
Police said that Maroof, aged 30, had gone out of his house in sector 37-D of Landhi No 2 on Wednesday night, but he did not return.
He was found murdered in a park at Khurramabad early Thursday morning. He had a bullet wound to his head and torture marks on his body.
Quoting the family sources, police said that the dead man was a plumber and he was looking for work.
DIES OF BURNS: A young woman died of burns in a hospital on Thursday morning.
Police said that Shahnaz, daughter of Abdul Rahman, suffered burns at her house in Orangi Extension.
She was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital from where she was referred to Civil Hospital. She died in the burns ward at Civil Hospital.
