HYDERABAD: ‘Hesco dues against govt depts to be recovered’

HYDERABAD, Jan 9: Minister of state for water and power Khalid Ahmad Lund has said efforts will be made to recover Wapda dues from government departments and local councils.
He was speaking at a briefing by Hesco chief Tariq Arshad at the Wapda Community Centre, Hesco Colony, Hussainabad, here on Wednesday.
The minister said pending issues like allotment of two floors to Hesco at the HDA’s civic centre and 60 acres in Gulshan-i-Shahbaz would also be resolved.
He sought help from government departments and people to check line losses.
He said consumers had been provided relief because of improvement in the power transmission system.
In his briefing, the Hesco chief informed the minister about steps taken by the company to improve the power supply system, recover dues, appoint youths on merit basis, install new feeders and construct grid stations.
He also told the minister about the village electrification programme, initiated by the company.
The minister later visited regional customer centres of Latifabad and Qasimabad, 132kv grid station, Latifabad, and the Thermal Power Station, Jamshoro.
FACTORY WORKERS: Workers of the Hilal Confectionery factory staged a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Thursday to protest against their retrenchment.
They also staged a demonstration in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion, some office-bearers of the JSQM, including Shabbir Jamali and Dr Zulfiqar Ali Panhwar, termed the retrenchment of the local workers from the factory a conspiracy.
They assured the workers of their party’s support in this regard.
SPSC: The Sindh Public Service Commission has announced the names of candidates, recommended for the posts of chest specialist, ophthalmologist and pathologist in the Sindh health department.
The commission, after conducting interviews, found four candidates fit for the post of chest specialist, nine for the post of ophthalmologist and five for the post of pathologist, and recommended their names to the government for appointment.
