HYDERABAD, Jan 9: The workers of the Jamshoro Thermal Power Station staged a demonstration at the power station in Jamshoro on Thursday against the withdrawal of different allowances.
The demonstration was staged under the banner of the Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union.
The protesters criticized the withdrawal of Jamshoro allowance, generation allowance and other allowances.
Speaking on the occasion, the regional chairman of the union, Mohammad Sajan Panhwar, demanded of the Wapda authorities to restore the allowances as the poor employees of Wapda were unable to survive with the meagre salaries.
Others, who spoke on the occasion, included Bashir Ahmed Chandio, Ghulam Asghar Lashari, Mohammad Rafique Jan and Bashir Ahmed Kalani.
SAZDA EMPLOYEES: Sazda employees on Thursday staged a token hunger strike outside the press club here against the delay in getting alternate jobs.
Speaking on the occasion, the leaders of Sazda Employees Action Committee, Zafar Solangi and others, deplored the inordinate delay in implementation of the Sindh government’s notification of Nov 12, 2002, regarding adjustment of Sazda employees in other departments.
They accused the bureaucracy of delaying the implementation of the notification, which, they added, had been issued with the approval of the Sindh cabinet and the governor.
They said that 650 families were facing starvation as the employees had not received their salaries for December as well as for the 15 days of November.
A leader of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Shabbir Jamali, and another of the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party, Hoath Khan Ghadi, visited the hunger strike camp and expressed solidarity with Sazda employees.
ZEAL PAK EMPLOYEES: The president of the Muttahida Majlis-i- Amal, Sindh, and the provincial Amir of the Jamaat-i-Islami, MNA Asadullah Bhutto, on Wednesday criticized a bank’s refusal to encash cheques, issued to the former workers of the Zeal Pak Factory.
He urged the management of the factory to encash the cheques immediately.
Talking to a delegation of the former employees of the factory, which was led by Mohammad Yasin and Ikramuddin, the MMA MNA demanded of the Sindh government to ensure payment of dues to the workers and urged the ministry of labour to take notice of the fraud, perpetrated by the factory’s management.
