LAHORE, Jan 8: The family of the slain youth on Wednesday held police responsible for his murder.
Azim Anwar, 22, an MBA student, was kidnapped for ransom on Dec 30. The kidnappers demanded Rs6 million ransom. His naked body was found from Model Town late Tuesday night.
His elder brother Wasim told reporters that the kidnappers contacted the family several times by phone. Initially, they demanded Rs6 million but later agreed on Rs500,000.
“Police advised us to pay the ransom,” Wasim said and added they were ready to pay but the kidnappers did not contact again.
He said the phone at his house had been put under observation. “We, as directed by the police, kept engaging the caller and at times a call lasted for over 10 minutes. But, police failed to trace it.”
Wasim also complained of the police attitude during investigations. “Instead of searching for the victim or the kidnappers, they kept on insisting to find the captors within the family and close relatives.”
A spokesman for city police chief Khwaja Khalid Farooq said he had sought cooperation of the friends and relatives of the victim to arrest the accused.
He said the CPC told them that kidnappers never cut down the amount of ransom.
Meanwhile, the body was handed over to the family after autopsy which was buried.
Azim was waiting for the result of his MBA last term examination, Wasim said. He was preparing to go abroad for higher education, he added.
The police till late night failed to make any breakthrough and kept on claiming that a team of senior officers had been formed which has been working on different lines.
