No decision on Iraq attack: US

NEW DELHI, Jan 6: The United States has not taken any decision to attack Iraq, a top official travelling here said on Monday.

Richard Haass, director of policy planning for the US State Department, said the US was “working with the Iraqis to persuade them to cooperate,” and denied plans to attack were set in stone.

Haass, on a two-day visit to India, said the United States wanted to see an Iraq with-out weapons of mass destruction, under a government which no longer “oppresses people.”

“Iraq under Saddam Hussein is good at one thing — perpetuating Saddam Hussein,” Haass told reporters.—AFP
