Telegrams being sent through ordinary mail

By Our Correspondent

SADIQABAD, Jan 5: Telegraph offices in Sadiqabad, Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Liaquatpur lack basic facilities.

Complaints about the shortage of telegraph forms, receipt books, stationary and paper rolls of fax machine at Rahim Yar Khan district telegraph office are the order of the day.

Seekers of telegram forms are often told that the PTCL Headquarters and the regional office have suspended the supply of stationery for the last many years.

Fee receipts are also being issued on plain paper chits which are objected by government and autonomous departments who have to maintain their records properly. Even plain papers and the fax rolls are not available most of the time.

The staff is also devoid of basic facilities like toilets and drinking water. Besides, employees are working in the most uncongenial atmosphere.

The plight of the Sadiqabad telegraph office is no different either. The ground floor is in a dilapidated condition where cracks are visible all around. Sanitary condition of the premises is even more deplorable. The telegram machine is out of order for the last several years. The fax machine is also inoperative for want of paper rolls. Telegram forms and receipt books are also not available and the staff dispatch telegrams through ordinary post.

Though constructed recently, the Liaquatpur telegraph office lacks all basic amenities. The telegrams booked are being dispatched through ordinary mail.

Similar is the situation at the Khanpur telegraph office which reflects the persistent negligence of the authorities concerned.
