Tenants demand ownership rights

OKARA, Jan 5: Hundreds of tenants of the military farms took out a procession here on Sunday.

Men and women from Chak numbers 8/4-L, 10/4-L and B/4-L were demanding ownership rights.

Later, the processions converged into a meeting. Anjuman Mazarin Punjab president Ghani Javid, women wing president Munawwar Bibi spoke to the participants.

They vowed to continue the struggle.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the law enforcement agencies said that malki ya maut demand could not be met.

About the arrest of tenants, the spokesman said that maintenance of law and order was the responsibility of the district police. “The people arrested were responsible for disturbing peace,” the spokesman said.

STUDENT KILLED: A class II student was hit and killed by a speeding tanker on Renala-Chuchuk Road on Sunday.

Muhammad Arshad of Chak No 5/GD primary school was crossing the road in recess time when a speeding tanker (No FDJ 7525) hit him, killing him on the spot. The tanker was driven by Shaukat Ali of Baha Bala village.

SHOT DEAD: A landlord shot dead his eight-year-old nephew over land dispute in Channu Mahtam village, some 30 km away from here, on Sunday afternoon.

Manzoor Ahmad Rubera’s nephew Irfan Ahmad was the owner of the disputed eight-acre farm land in Channu Mahtam village along Okara-Faisalabad Road.

Manzoor shot dead Irfan and escaped.

Gogera police have registered the case.
