Hai worthy winner

KARACHI, Jan 4: Mohammad Ali Hai leading from day one, emerged as the worthy winner of the Shell 3rd Sindh Amateur golf championship played on three days over 54 holes, at the Karachi Golf Championship on Saturday.

Carding 71+71+72, Ali beat the Navy’s Tariq Mahmood by 11 strokes. Tariq finished with scores of 75+72+79.

Asad I.A. Khan won the net category with scores of 69+70+75. Samsam Qadir a former hockey international from Sargodha, had to be content with the runner-up position.

The other leading amateurs were Karar Hussain, Waseem Rana, Murtaza Qasim, Waqas Ali Malik, Rehan Khawja and Sohail Rana.

The senior championship was retained by Haroon Kahlon with scores of 75+80, with bridge star Zia Mehmood, trying his hand at golf, finishing second with scores of 79+79. The senior net was bagged by Zaffar A. Khan, with net scores of 69+73, followed by Tahir Karamat with 69+74.

The Junior title was retained by Omair Javed of the DHA Golf Club with Sibtain Haji finishing off as runner-up. The Junior net was picked up by Khurram Bokhari with Kamil I.A. Khan just missing out to finish as runner-up.

The Juniors under-15 was won by Hassan Kassam, followed home by Hamza Haroon. Danish Khan picked up the net category with Umair Saleem in second spot.

A day earlier, Saba Iqbal won the ladies crown played over 18 holes, with Mrs. Kim Dae Nam finishing second. Mrs. B.K. Lee was successful in the net category with Ruqiya Bashir finishing second.

Former badminton champion Tahir Karamat grabbed the veterans title, with former champion Kamal Shoaib content to finish up as runner-up. Mir Safdar Ali won the net, followed by Group captain (retd) M.M. Rizvi.

The subsidiary prizes was won by Anjum Mehmood, Arshad I.A. Khan, Pervez Ansari and Yousuf Ansari.
