Shoaib Malik demolishes ZTBL

By Our Sports Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Jan 4: PIA completed the demolition of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) Saturday with an innings and 71-run victory in their Quaid Trophy Group IV game, thanks to off-spinner Shoaib Malik’s match haul of 10 wickets.

ZTBL, starting the third day at a precarious 90 for seven were forced to follow on, the entire side being dismissed for only 144. Shoaib did the mopping up job by removing tailenders Mubashir Nazir, Fahad Masood and Raja Mohammad Kashif as he begun to weave a web around the falling ZTBL side.

Shoaib who had match figures of 10 for 97, continued to play havoc with the ball in the second innings, razing the rival batting in which only Fahad Masood, with an unbeaten 46, stood out. Shoaib had second innings figures of 7-73, his splendid bowling ensuring victory for PIA inside three days.

Meanwhile, KRL continued to show ruthless form outclassing and outplaying Karachi Blues by an innings and 66 runs on the third day of their match.

After Karachi resumed their second innings at the overnight 46 for two facing a huge deficit of 235 runs, they were sent crashing by all-rounder Yasir Arafat who snared five for 71 in a hostile spell. Only Mohammad Hasnain provided some kind of resistance by scoring a painstaking 59 as did Imranullah who scored 41.
