Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Jan 4: The Malakand Levies force would be reorganized and equipped with the latest facilities to fight criminals and anti-social elements and effectively maintain the writ of the law.

This was decided at a meeting held in Malakand on Saturday, said a statement issued by the district information officer.

The meeting took notice of the public complaints regarding corruption at the levies checkpoints in the district.

The force’s commandant directed the post commanders that strict action would be taken against those officials who were found involved in corruption or extorting money from the public at these points in future.

The meeting also decided that joint efforts would be made to solve the problems facing the levies men in disposing of their duties.

The issues would be taken up with both the federal and provincial governments as well as the SAFRON division.

The participants of the meeting discussed that the Malakand Levies was doing the same duty as other defence forces, but it was not getting the benefits like them.

It was stated that constables in other forces were given grade 4, while in Malakand Levies sepoys were given grade 2, which needed to be revised.
