KARACHI, Jan 4: An anti-terrorism court indicted on Saturday a worker of the banned Harkatul Mujahideen in a bomb blast case.

Mohammed Ahmed Daniyal, however, denied his involvement in the case when Judge Feroze Mehmood Bhatti formally framed charges against him.

The activist of the banned religious outfit was charged with planting two explosive devices in a building, where a sectarian community’s function was being held. One of the devices exploded, injuring a few people and damaging some motorcycles.

The Pirabad police had initially registered the case against unknown culprits on December 13, 2001.

According to the prosecution, the Harkat worker, arrested on July 16, 2002, during interrogation disclosed his involvement in the bomb blast.

Special public prosecutor Mazhar Qayyum examined the first prosecution witness, head constable Liaquat, who was cross-examined by defence counsel Abdul Wahid Katpur.

The judge, who is holding the trial inside the Central Prison, Karachi, put off the hearing of the case to Monday when statements of other prosecution witnesses would be recorded.
