Fog lights necessary on motorway

Published January 4, 2003

RAWALPINDI, Jan 3: Fog lights have been made compulsory for vehicles travelling on the motorway owing to poor visibility caused by thick fog, motorway police officials said here on Friday.

They said fog was hampering the flow of traffic on the motorway and also caused accidents.

The officials said vehicles travelling on motorway without fog lights would be fined from January 7. Moreover, no public transport vehicles would be allowed to enter the motorway during fog hours without fog lights, they added.

The fog increases towards Lahore after Lilla interchange with a decrease in visibility.

Mentioning the fog intensity and visibility on motorway in foggy areas, they said: “The visibility was 15-20 meters from Lilla interchange to Bhera, but from there onwards upto Khankhah Dogran it decreases to zero visibility. “The visibility then slightly improves to 4-5 meters towards Sheikhupura interchange and further increases to 7-8 meters to main toll plaza,” the officials added.

The official asked the drivers to remain careful while driving on the motorway.
