PESHAWAR, Jan 3: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani re- affirmed his commitment to put the province’s economy on fast track in order to provide logical feet for the provincial economy to stand upon.

The frontier government decided to widen its fiscal space, cut down the fate of non-developmental expenditures, ensure judicious use of resources, and maintain strict financial discipline.

He was talking to a delegation of World Bank led by its Acting Country Director Abid Hussain at the Frontier’s House, Peshawar on Friday morning.

Durrani said we would not take such loans which might overburden the already sagging economy of the province rather we would evolve a three-pronged strategy which would address poverty alleviation, widening the resource space, and getting out of the debt track.

The chief minister lamented that the previous governments’ unrealistic approach and decisions brought severe repercussions that affected the economy of the province.

“It was one reason that we are running our affairs on loans. How can we sustain this mechanism in view of the prevailing scenario?”

The provincial government has decided to set up commissions for all fields comprising elected representatives and experts in the fields and on the recommendations of these commissions; the Frontier government would evolve its strategy.
