Landmine blast

SIALKOT, Jan 3: Three minors sustained serious injuries in a landmine blast near Nullah Dek in Jandala village in Zafarwal sector on Friday.

Official sources said Muhammad Navid, 8, Shakil, 9, and Navid Ahmad, 11, were playing in a field when they hit an anti-person landmine.

The injured were admitted to the Sialkot CMH in critical condition.

RALLY: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal took out an anti-American procession from Doonga Bagh Chowk to Allama Iqbal Chowk here on Friday.

The protesters led by MMA’s Sialkot district president Chaudhry Amjad Ali Cheema and MPA Arshad Mehmood Baggu advocate were holding placards. They also chanted slogans against the US for imposing expected war on Iraq.

The protesters, mostly MMA activists, urged the government to take positive efforts for halting the US and its allies from imposing war on Iraq.

Earlier on the appeal of the MMA, ulema of all sects passed anti-US resolutions during Friday sermons in mosques of Sialkot, Daska, Bhopalwala, Sambrial, Uggoki, Jamkey Cheema, Pasrur, Badiana and Chawinda.

REMAND EXTENDED: A Gujranwala anti-terrorism court on Friday extended the physical remand of the main suspect of Daska church attack, Qari Muhammad Afzal, till Jan 7.

Law enforcement agencies produced him before the court and sought extension in remand.

Official sources said no solid proof has yet been found against Qari Afzal.

The agencies had also started interrogating some Christian suspects, they added.

Meanwhile, ulema and khateebs in their Juma sermons criticized the arrest of Qari Afzal and urged the government to release him as no proof of his involvement in the church attack could be found.
