BAHAWALPUR, Jan 3: Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind has said that the government will not allow any increase in fertilizers prices.

He was addressing participants of a training workshop on ‘integrated pest management (IPM)’ at Rashadia Hall here on Friday evening.

He said the issue had come under discussion in the first meeting of the federal cabinet which resolved that neither the prices would be increased nor the subsidy on it would be withdrawn.

Governments’ first priority, according to him, will be to check the 40 per cent wastage of canal water.

Earlier, IPM national coordinator Dr Iftikhar briefed the federal minister about this programme and said that the IPM was aimed at imparting training to cultivators for healthy crops, regular inspection of crops and protecting friendly insects which may help in the nourishment of crops.

COMMISSION: The inaugural meeting of the District Safety Commission, Bahawalpur, was held here on Friday.

The elected and nominated members were informed about their powers and the mode of working to redress people’s grievances.

District Nazim Tariq Cheema who presided over the meeting asked the members to discharge their duties to provide justice to the people.
