KARACHI, Jan 3: The National Transport Ittehad on Friday said it will hold a meeting of all transport organizations of Pakistan on Jan 6 in Karachi to devise a strategy against petroleum prices hike, while leaders of the Karachi Transport Ittehad in an emergency meeting decided not to observe any strike till Jan 15.

The leaders of NTIK in their meeting demanded of the government to immediately reduce petroleum prices and abolish the Oil Companies’ Advisory Committee (OCAC) as, they added, the transporters were unable to afford the ever-increasing rates of petroleum.

The members of the KTI said that the OCAC had provided a justification for observing strike. However, they decided not to observe strike as they hoped that the new provincial government might decrease petroleum prices.

They also demanded of the federal and provincial governments to immediately abolish the OCAC.

The meeting called for withdrawal of Section 144 imposed in parts of Karachi as, they alleged, police were extorting money from truck drivers for digging sandstone.—PPI
